Did you know that you can use the Xbox or Playstation as an additional computer for home schooling? There is no doubt that working from home and home schooling at teh same time has put a strain on the lives of parents. It stretches home resources such as space and internet bandwith – as well as our patience! But, one of the most expensive challenges is ensureing everyone has a device to work on.
If you are not fortunate enought to have multiple laptops, desktops or tables BUT you DO have a consol such as an Xbox or Playstation then you may be able to use it as an extra computer to keep your children's home schooling on track!
Here's how….
Using an Xbox as a Web Browser
- Plug a keyboard into the Xbox USB slot.
- Go to my games and apps.
- Find and select Microsoft Edge.
- Log in as usual to whichever online learning portal your school uses!
Adding a keyboard to the X Box is easy – simplu plug a USB Keyboard into a spare USB port on the X Box. You can then use the controller as a mouse or plug in a USB mouse too. Note: There are mixed reports on using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the X Box. The X Box One S does NOT have build in bluetooth but it MAY be possible to use a bluetooth keyboard / mouse with a plug in USB Bluetooth receiver but user report that is does not work with all keyboards.
Using a PlayStation as a Web Broswer:
- Look for the PlayStation internet browser icon (WWW with dots around it).
- Press the PlayStation logo on the controller.
- Go to the library and find options for games and applications.
- In applications, you will find the internet browser.
- Open the browser and log in as usual to whichever online learning portal your school uses!
